Default A Walk in the Snow

Hi there,

I'm very new to photography, only using a point & shoot so far (though I'd like to get a slr in a few months). These photos are actually the result of the first trip I've taken with my new P&S specifically for taking pictures. Tried my best to fool it into giving me a longer shutter time on the last one, with limited success.

Camera: Pentax Optio WS80
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/3.8
Focal Length: 6.2 mm

Flash: Off, Did not fire

What wonderful photos! I especially like the composition and clarity of the third one. Welcome to DPS, and I hope we see more from you soon!

Thanks ladies!

Its a bit intimidating here with just my little P&S, but I'm sure within a year I'll be right in the mix with everyone.

Nicely done on all of these. The exposure is very well done. You did a good job of getting silky water flow in your last one.

I like the 1st and the last one. I would recommend you get GIMP or photoshop and add some contrast to the already good shots. Helping the colors pop will make them that much better. Keep it up.

Hi Cold and welcome to the great DPS family. You have opened with 4 great shots. I think we should ban you from getting a DSLR cos with shots like this from a P&S you are going to make us all look like amateurs! Keep clicking and posting and enjoy yoursel here. God bless. PAUL

Hi, and welcome
I think you managed it quite well in the 4th shot, it reminds me of a watercolour, and the water itself has a nice smooth appearance.
I'm still only using a point and shoot myself, although mine does have a full manual mode
Still though, wouldn't a DSLR be lovely...

Wow! What a hoppin' place! I come back to see if I got any more comments...and I *did*...but now the thread is several pages back! Unbelievable, but its definitely a sure sign of a vibrant and healthy community atmosphere.

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words about the photos as well as the warm welcome. I'm eager to share more as I snap "winners". These 4 were what I felt was the best of about 40-50 shots I took Sunday.

I used Picasa for very minor touch ups, but the 1st and 4th ones I could have really let go without any alteration...though the 2nd and 3rd needed a bit of a brightening.

Thanks again!
