Default The vastness of West Texas

We had our Texas state sheepdog finals this past weekend, in beautiful ;-) Ft. Stockton Texas. It's in far west Texas, basically out in the middle of nowhere. But it sure did lend it self to some nice picture taking ops ;-) We had a big Norther blow through, and we actually got some snow (my dogs first time seeing the white stuff) The clouds and sky were unbelieveable, I was in heaven! I got myself an E-520 for X-mas ;-) and really got to try her out, OMG love it! And that little kit lens, 14-42mm, is da bomb.

This is Ron and Dusty, going to the post. He went on to win the double-lift (really tough class/course)

Ron Enzeroth and Dusty

I thought this shot looked like an arctic expedition ;-) The contrails were pretty amazing. FS is right on a flight route, so they were all over the sky.

We have an older guy (86 yrs.) that trials with us, and they decided to make him a special day ;-) so Sat. was Red Oliver day. I thought this was kind of a neat shot. Juno enjoying Red Oliver day.

And this shot, well...I figured it would be all kinda blown out etc...no filter on the camera...but I kind of like how it turned out ;-) did I mention I LOVE the 520 LOL and man did I get a deal on it! wow!

Looks like Western Kansas. Flat and semi- arid. Great B&W work.

I think you really captured the expanses of the area well. Nice B&W conversions as well. TFS.

Stella, what an apt title for this post -- you've really communicated the vastness well. My favorites are the first and last, the wonderful sky on the first, and the amazing capture of the sun on the last. Thanks for sharing them with us!

Great shots! I especially like how you captured the clouds. They have an awesome texture to them.

Hey, I've been to Ft Stockton before...well, just passing through, because, like you said, it's in the middle of nowhere. I was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, so I'm enjoying this trip down memory with your big skies, open lands and barren country. Your first one has really brought out how alone one can feel all by oneself in a country as big as that. It can't be explained, only experienced. Excellent set!
