Default My 1000th post - Channeling An Artist

First, let me say that had I not found DPS, these shots would never have been possible. Because besides making some wonderful friends and getting daily inspiration from the wonderful images that are posted here, I have learned not to be embarrassed to post things I try. There has to be risk in creativity, and the wonderful thing about DPS is that risk and creativity are embraced. And that support is priceless. So, thank you to everyone.

When I shot these self-portraits, I decided to completely let myself go and simply try a kind of stream-of-consciousness approach to the set up. I was listening the Leonard Cohen, who I love and just recently saw in concert, and I let the creativity go without worrying about how it would turn out, how silly I would look, how silly I would feel, etc. One thing I've discovered about doing self-portraits is that I can be completely immersed in the whole creative process. It is not a narcissistic thing, but being both subject and photographer really makes you one with the finished product - for better or worse!

Hi Martha, and congrats on the big 1K. I said you looked terrific in your last self-portrait posting, and nothings changed (other than the creativity and boldness). You have produced two spectacular images and pushed the boundaries a stage further. I trust you will keep on moving forward and capitalising (as we are all doing), on the inspiration and confidence you get from your friends on DPS, of which I assure you I am one. Your comments on my posts have ensured that I too have no fear of posting anymore. Thank you Martha. I look forward to moving forward with you. God bless. PAUL
