Default Apathy

Here's a shot I took a while ago, not far from where I live. It was a sad sight really, but I felt like it must be taken. I think I submitted it to a newspaper.

It reminds me of a quote I once heard. I don't know if it's attributable to any one person, but it went thus - "The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is apathy".

It would be rather hypocritical of me to count myself among those who genuinely cared about his state, yet it made me a sad. Not just that he was suffering, but that I didn't care enough.

Technically this isn't one of my better photos, but I count it among the better subjects

This definitely caused me to do a bit of self-examination. Thank you for the jolt.

Your second photo communicates his plight very well. And your words reveal your compassionate heart. I too can look back on times when I did not care enough. Thank you for the reminder not to postpone caring action.

A drunken man???? I appreciate ur care. but what I feel bad about this pic is how a man can be like this without care of his family? I have seen many times how much their Mother / wife / daughter suffer to wake them up and get to home. hope you must have seen that also and the eyes of public on them. I donno when will he realize this...

I think it's possible that he was drunk - especially because there was a TASMAC nearby, but I don't think he was. If I remember right, he was a lame beggar.
