Talking diamond ring on brushed aluminum

Simply lit by a yellowish desk lamp. Only post production is sharpening and cropping. Shot hand held with XSi with a Tamron 17-50mm, at 50mm f/2.8.

Oh, and she said yes. I'm engaged!

I remember trying to photograph our engagement ring when we got it - it's actually pretty hard to do well! (Could make for an interesting Assignment some week..

Hi psyrex and welcome to DPS. Well, you will always remember you first post on DPS I suppose. The shot is great with the focus not surprisingly on the diamond, enhanced by the beautiful grain on the surface. Many congratulations. Care for each other always, and above all, stay freinds. God bless, PAUL

Very nice picture. Love the compo!

I'm also considering the 17-50 tamron lens and seeing this pic only proves that I need to buy it! Are you happy with tamron lens?

Yes I am, it's a great lens, and the new Tamron 17-50mm VC is probably even better. I've played with the VC in the Tamron 28-300mm lens and it's a very stable system. I'm very tempted to upgrade to VC.

One downfall is that usually most of the pictures require some contrast enhancement in post for really vibrant shots. If you normally shoot in raw and edit later, you wouldn't notice the difference.

Actually I was just reading this review about the 17-50 VC and apparently it is a little lacking:

"Overall, the Tamron 17-50mm non-VC lens is sharper, has less vignetting, has a similar amount of CA and has less barrel distortion on the wide end but more pincushion distortion on the long end. The non-VC 17-50 is a bit smaller and lighter. Obviously the 17-50 VC has the 4-stop-rated (I didn't test this yet) stabilization advantage. "
