You will get more responses if you post the actual picture and not a link. The picture is very nice, the sky is a little blown out, but other than that it's a good capture.

It is depend to photographer. This is her/his photo and she/he can do anything, "manipulation" or "fake" words are only a comment for the photographer. In my opinion, just relax and enjoy the photo.

unless you are representing a particular photo as a true and accurate representation of a scene then isn’t it ‘art’ and subject to whatever interpretation/manipulation/processing you desire?? If you like it is a success! –if others like it then its marketable!!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll definitely keep it in mind to actually post the pictures up whether then link it next time for convenience. Your insights have been very informative. I really appreciate it. I'll take Baydem's advice...I should just relax and enjoy the photograph

I agree with most of the other comments about the sky being blown out, and the artistic liberties that can be taken. The actual image is great. It captures the immensity of the wall of rocks quite well. Good job.
The other side of that blown out sky issue is what cause is. The simple answer is lack of dynamic range, for film and digital imagery. I can imagine that when you took it there was bright sunshine, but a low sun, resulting in very deep shadows in the rocks. The regrettable fact is that neither film nor today’s digital sensors have anything like the range of the human eye. By shooting raw you can gain some additional headroom, but an amazing amount of detail can resolved with software. Here is an example of an image with no post processing... ![]() and here with edits applied... ![]() You can read about the software I used to do this on my blog. Lambert |
