Default Playing with the big kids

I've just noticed that I've somehow been given the illustrious title of "Senior Member." Rather hilarious, I think, since I'm still such a beginner -- I've had my DSLR for just a month and am still figuring out what all the buttons are for, and am just starting to move beyond auto, though none of those have been postable yet.

Anyhow, what a great opportunity for me to say a big thank you to all of you. I am having so much fun here, and learning so much from all of your photos and your comments. And when someone whose photos demonstrate amazing skill and artistry comments on one of mine, well, what an encouragement!

I really do feel like I'm playing with the big kids here -- so here's my little granddaughter, our youngest soccer player, in the family soccer game with the big kids:

JJ takes it down the field

He's big, but she's fast!

JJ's down, but look at that smile!

JJ in the middle

Notice that smile on the last one? That's how I feel about DPS! Many thanks to all of you for your kind and generous comments and wonderful photos!

Helen, I love the smile of someone genuinely enjoying themselves, and in your comments, your smile is always showing through. My boys played soccer at a very high level on traveling teams. They always learned the most when they played against/with those with greater skills. It's the same here. We'll all keep lifting each other up to higher levels. Glad you are enjoying the ride, and thanks for all the kind comments you've sent my way.

Thanks, Nicky! You got the determination part right! And the cute part too. And she knows it ...

Thanks, Duane, the photographer had at least as much fun as the soccer players, and wishes she had as much energy!

Yes, the learning from others, the mutual encouragement, and the shared joy are my favorite parts of DPS (in addition to the great photos!) Thanks for all your encouragement along the way.

Doesn't surprise me that they look familiar -- but actually they are different shots than my Thanksgiving Soccer Championship post. Can you believe that with the burst feature on my new camera I took over 354 photos of a pick-up soccer game??? Big mistake -- waaaaay toooooo many to process! And yes, it was a blast, as is DPS for me. Thanks for being part of the fun!

Thanks, Brian. It was easy. I just set the camera on sports mode, pointed it vaguely in the direction of the action, and pushed the shutter release a whole bunch of times. I don't think I would have tried it, except for these grandkids for whom soccer is life this time of year.

Thanks, Nikki, glad you understand. Sure is fun, isn't it?
