Default Alone, Red --- For World AIDS Day

Today, December 1st, is World AIDS Day. And, so, we try to turn the world red as part of the World AIDS Campaign.

The below photo is something I came up with as a small tribute for the day. With more than two million AIDS related deaths reported globally in 2008, and two million children under the age of 15 now living with HIV, it is a scary thought to think how many people are affected by it.

Is it something we can stop? Not right away. But it is something we can help prevent, and we can help support those who are affected by it.

Buy a ribbon and support. Keep the promise.

Alone, Red

(430EXII shot at 1/32@70mm camera left.)

Thanks for looking

Such a thought provoking photo -- thanks for sharing it. It reminds me of the hospice patients I've cared for who have died of AIDS, and how each one was such a unique and precious individual. I really appreciate your tribute.

Thank you, Helen. While never directly affected by AIDS, I feel that is no reason to not reach out and help in some small way. It must be a very difficult job in which you work.

Very thought-provoking post, and frightening statistics. You're exactly right too - we can certainly do small things to help. Anything we can do is a bonus.

Oeter, I think it was Mother Teresa who said, "We do no great things; we do small things with great love." You just never know what those small things will result in! I have the privilege of having a job I love; an unusual one, perhaps, but as with anything, if you love it then it's not so hard after all! Your words and your photo speak volumes about your heart, and that is what's important!

@SoxAddict: Exactly right! And, I know there's so many causes out there. And obviously we can't give time or money to all of them. But, who knows what that loose change might do.

@Helen: Such a beautiful quote. You are fortunate to do something you love, no matter how difficult it may be at times. Much respect for what you do.
