Default Hawk and Finch

A couple of shots from this afternoon's photo walk in Coyote Hills.

First up, a red-tailed hawk:

And this finch (a house finch, I believe):

Finch

Thanks for looking.

They both came out very nice. From the title, I was wondering if they were in the same picture- the finch as the hawk's meal. The hawk looks majestic.

I was wondering the same thing. It still apears the hawk is eye balling the finch tho.
Nice crisp and clean photos!

Beautiful, Kurt. Did you use "Vivid" mode in your camera? That's the bluest blue I've seen in a long time. Awesome contrast with the highly detailed hawk!! Well done!!

Just beautiful. Love that blue, and the way these beautiful birds posed for you. The hawk is magnificent -- such wonderful detail on his feathers. Thanks for sharing them.

Sorry to mislead. I captured the finch in a tree to my right whilst waiting for the moon to come up behind the hawk, which was in a tree directly in front of me. If I'd had a tripod with me, they might be clearer, but I only see the warts when I start pixel peeping.

Jim, thanks. No, I didn't use Vivid mode. In fact, I shoot in a custom "enhancement" mode that lets me push the contrast and the colors in PP. That said, late in the day this time of year in northern California, if the sky is clear, it can be a beautiful blue on its own. I didn't have to push it much.

Tenzin'sMom, the hawk was gorgeous. Pretty sure it was a juvenile because it didn't have the characteristic red tail of the adults We stood underneath his tree for twenty minutes doing "Ooh! Click. Click. Ahh. Click. Click." He/she/it was a most obliging subject.
