Default St oswalds church oxfordshire 2009

The 13th Century church of St Oswalds built on the remains of a Roman villa here in the Windrush valley Oxfordshire.Near by are the terraces and all that remains of the ancient village of Widford abandoned during the Black Plague. The body of Oswald the King of Norhthumbria rested here on its way to LIndisfarne.

Beautiful, Mike. My favorite feature of this shot is the composition. I love the profile of the church! Did you reduce the exposure in the sky just above the clouds? I've been doing that in Lightroom in some of my shots lately, with great results.

I love this shot. TFS

thanks jim
i spent some time on this photo as i wanted to get a more moodier effect as the photos normally taken are pretty and not so dramatic. So its my twist on the place that has a kind of dark past. Yes i reduced the sky down and other parts to get variations of tones and highlighting some areas. I have been using Sliver elex pro an add on for CS3 which has some good control points for doing just this. Its a little fiddily but the software has some great
pre sets of types of film and varying iso's, also some good tones.I know what you use in lightfoom but with S E P i have a bit more control of what i want to highlight. You wont be disapointed.
cheers
mike

Beautiful Mike, and so simple too. The sky is glorious in this photo. Just as a matter of interest, St Oswald's church in Liverpool was at the top of the street where I grew up, & I attended St Oswald's infants and junior schools there!

Well, you have done it again, Mike. Beautiful shot. my friend. Love the composition, and what you have done in post to get the moodier look. It wreaks a story of times long past, and the history of the church. If buildings could speak...Thanks for sharing the marvelous shot.

Hehe! Yeah, I could make some inappropriate joke involving the Catholic church, but I went to a Convent school & my indoctrination by the nuns has left me just scarred enough to be too fearful to do so
