Default Get your kicks...where else? Route 66

Today I offer a bit of Americana for those of you considering "motoring west". These photos, drawn from the archives, feature photographs from two of the remaining Wigwam Villages. This one is located in Holbrook, Arizona on the famous Route 66. The first Village was built in Kentucky in 1936. Other followed and were built along Route 66 which is known as the "Main Street of America" or the "Mother Road". It was built in 1926 starting in Chicago and ending in Los Angeles. It was featured in the Disney movie "Cars" along with a version of the song by John Mayer.

I took these photos a number of years ago with my trusty Olympus P&S. They are still in operation and they feature vintage cars in front of each Wigwam. I'm just dusting them off and sharing them with you if nothing else, for a smile.

This set would not be complete without music. Here's the classic version and here's one that's pretty hip.

That second shot reminds me of a postcard I saw once. Once again you've got me singing and it will probably be stuck there all day. You are an evil, evil, woman!

Wow, what a cool looking place. I'll be in Kingman the end of next month and may have to venture around some and check this place out

I stumbled upon Route 66 while taking a short cut from Las Vegas to Palm Springs. It took me through the little settlement of Amboy, CA. I don't get the occasion to travel that way too often and most of the buildings in Amboy are abandoned but there is still a gas station open there. I never thought about taking a camera with me, but next time.....
Thanks for sharing these, Linda.
