Default A Trip With Preacherman : Hop Aboard (5)

Day 5 Pilgrims. Only 4 days to go and we must part, so lets enjoy. After a luxurious night, we will breakfast at a cafe near the hotel, drink coffee of a unique flavour that will remain in your memory forever, then head for the Czech border. We will camp at a most delightful site where we encounter hospitality extraordinaire.

One of our pilgrims has an interest in architechural detail, so for you Paul, here is a crop of the church that was visible from our breakfast venue. A quick snap of this and then we power up and head for the border.
Crop for Paul L

We cross the Czech border unhindered cos the border cop is a biker who, after drooling over the Pan for a few minutes, waves us through, and after we carefully weave through a large gathering of scantily clad ladies of the night we venture north towards Prague and our first camp. Wish I knew what all these signs meant.
Entering Czech Republic

Beautiful fields and woodlands adorn this unique country, and almost every field has a monumental crucifix "protecting" the crops it bestows. Here is an example.
Czech field blessing

Our journey is long today, and 62 year old bones need the occasional stretch. I didn't even notice that yet another cross was casting it's protective shadow over us, even then. We indulge in a few chocolate biscuits(cookies) and a coke. In a nearby small copse of bushes is a small monument honouring the dead of the world wars. It looks unattended and almost appreciative of the brief attention and prayer it now receives.
Stretch the legs

We have arrived at a campsite in a place I am not even going to attempt to spell. Suffice it to say it is superb. Great shower facilities, but no cafe within many miles. We approach a nearby caravan and beg some hot water for a drink. They insist we join them for a large hot bowl of beef stew and brown grain bread. The dark night sky is illuminated by a clear three quarter moon, the air is warm, the stew delicious and the owls are serenading us as if by invitation. We eat, laugh and sing, yes sing, until 2 am, then reluctantly creep to our tent and completely crash out. Perfick! We will be in Prague tomorrow. Good night pilgrims, and God bless.

Another wonderful day! Paul will love the architectural highlight - especially the cactus-like appearance of that tower! Cute. I laughed at the signs too - but I did spot the sign for "Tesco" hiding behind the tree! The crosses protecting the fields are very interesting - what a nice story.

The campsite is great, even if there is nowhere to buy coffee - but how lovely of our neighbours to help us out so graciously. Yummy beef stew (that's "Scouse" where I'm from!) & coffee too. And I feel so rested after yesterday's hotel stay, I could stay awake alll night. But I won't - Prague tomorrow, very special because I've never been there either! Can't wait.

Only a few days left Bill, but glad you are enjoying it. Prague is a great place. Hang on tight buddy, there are some great bendy stretches ahead where I can get my knee down. PAUL

Jennie, you wouldn't believe the Viennese obsession wiyh coffee. They have coffee menus with dozens of options. If you just ask for a coffee, the waiter looks positively insulted. Oh, and don't worry about the road signs, I never take any notice of them anyway!. PAUL

I tell you Nicky, I can still smell that beef stew. There are many days that come and go and will never be remembered, but the days on this trip will be with me forever. Never did see that Tesco, but Lidl's are round every corner out there. See you tomorrow. PAUL
