Default Lunch Time in Japan

It's Thanksgiving in the US but in Japan, it was just another work day. Oh well.

But going with the theme of "food", here's 3 shots of mom's home cooking from this past weekend when I stopped by their place while here on a business trip. It was a yummy lunch

Rice with whole grains.

Sanma or Pacific Saury. Yum.

And hijiki (a type of sea weed) with carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and agedofu or deep fried tofu.

Better than a trip to a fast food joint that's for sure!

(^_^)

Thanks everyone!

I forgot to add that this was all taken with the new Panasonic Lumix GF-1. That tiny (relatively speaking) micro four thirds camera that is competing against the Olympus EP-1. I gotta tell you...this is one spiffy little camera. Compact (about the size of those old 1.3MP cameras from 1999). But with wonderful almost DSLR image quality. And the 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens is a dream.

These shots though were taken with the new Leica 45mm f/2.8 macro lens that will be available in the US soon (I got it in Japan). The first macro lens for the micro four thirds standard, it's pretty darn sharp and also has a nice focus limiter switch for when you are shooting non-macro shots as well.

So yeah. It's my unpaid endorsement of the new micro four thirds standard and specifically the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 and the as yet unreleased in the US, Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm/F2.8.

Ahh Patrick. You'll do just fine. These are typical meals but at the same time, it's not ALL we have here. Plenty of western foods as well as foods you will find in any supermarket in the US or Europe. And plenty of good restaurants too that serve not just fish and rice and such but everything else in between.

These were just some of the more "exotic" examples for the predominantly western readers of this site!
