Default "million dollar courthouse" and a few others

Haven't been on here for a while so I thought I'd share a few quickly. This courthouse is across the street from where my great grandparents lived for as long as I can remember. I've always been impressed with this courthouse. It was officially completed in 1870, and cost $1,342,226.31. Thus evolved the nickname, the "Million Dollar Courthouse." This is the back.

The front.

Great grandma who used to live across the street from the courthouse. She's been in a nursing home about 3 years now. She just celebrated her 101st birthday! Not a great pic of her but I didn't have a lot of time. She gets distracted easily. lol. She looks pretty much like I remember her looking when I was a kid. Just a few more wrinkles.

And totally unrelated to the others but cute nonetheless, my oldest son talking to me from the bounce house.

Thanks for looking!

Beautiful courthouse, and beautiful grandma! I like courthouses, too.

A former teaching colleague of mine retired, and she and he husband took on the challenge of visiting and photographing every courthouse in Texas, all 254 counties! I think it took them about 5 years making about a dozen "loop trips" originating in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the most distant loop out to west Texas being about a 500 mile radius. They published their photos on a website (don't know if it's still online) but found that a coffee table photo book of all Texas courthouses had already been published.

Beautiful pictures.
Really crisp and clean with vibrant colour.

The story that I find in the last two shots is that a smile, whether young or old, can warm any heart.

Thank you for sharing these.

Wow! That's some dedication! That stinks that a book had already been published! Bet they had a great time doing it though!
