I've shot Nikon my entire life, so my only experience with Canon has been either with a point-and-shoot, or with a DSLR on full auto (or, as I like to call it, "point-and-shoot EXTREME!")

Having said that, my girlfriend (artsgirl on the DPS forums,) absolutely loves the 7D. It has great battery life, takes nice sharp photos (seriously. this photo. full auto,) and has low noise at high ISO. She hasn't had a chance to take the video recording for a spin, but Engadget posted positive impressions of it.
