Default The Mantis and The Money Toad...

This is an actual photograph I took one day while editing images at my computer. This mantis or his twin brother was following me around the whole day. I was on my balcony in the morning and there he was. Later that day I went out to my garage and there he was again on the garage door. Finally that evening I was editing images at my computer and I looked up and guess who it was standing there looking at me while I was editing? Mr. Mantis. I thought i t was an interesting image of his standing there on my Monitor next to my money toad. So I snapped a quick one with my old Olympus c-5050. The resulting shot is what you see.

good clean capture... thanx for sharing.....

I have a doubt.. while taking such images of insects from close distance, will the flash from our camera cause any trouble to their delicate eyes???

I love the preying mantis! It makes the shot for me.

I've wanted to photograph one all summer and never saw one, once... that is until I was at work one morning and didn't have any of my cameras with me. Fortunately, my job requires me to have a camera in my work van (admittedly not the best, but the company bought it.) At least, I was able to capture one shot with it before it got annoyed and flew off. However, mine wasn't as nice as this, that's for sure! Great work!

Come spring time, I'm going to order a mantis egg case and hatch my own to photograph and release. A 2 for... pest control and macro model. ; )

cool shot! i like the lighting and the color..it makes the praying mantis stands out against the background..Mr MoneyToad is a nice touch to the overall picture..some people go to gret lengths to have a shot of praying mantis but you are lucky to have one who follows you around..(and why is it following you anyway?hmmn..)

So, that's where Ralph Macchio learned his karate stunt. Nice shot, contrast works just right for me.

I didn't use a flash, I used the existing light from my desk lamp, which is camera left, and I color balanced it so it was not orange. If you notice theres no resulting shadow from an on camera flash. just existing light coming from the left.
