Cebu City, Philippines - is the oldest city in the Philippines and is tagged to be the Queen City of the South. It has the richest history, home of the famous lechon (roast suckling pig which according to Anthony Bourdain is the best pig ever!), and location of some of the most beautiful beach in the country.
These historical and famous landmarks in Cebu City are dedicated to Duane(dvetter) who travelled 1000+ miles just to marry a Filipina from Cebu Ms. Naomie – the girl with the fab shoes collection. Basilica of Santo Niño – it is the home of the statue of the Holy Child (Santo Nino) presented by Ferdinand Magellan to the rulers of Cebu on April 14, 1521. Magellan's Cross – This is the mural on the ceiling of Magellan’s cross – perhaps the most famous landmark of Cebu. The cross was planted to commerate the celebration of the first Catholic mass in the Phlippines by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. Fort San Pedro – It was built on 1565 and it is the oldest Spanish fort in the country. It served as the principal base for the Spanish colonization in the Philippines and now being used as office of the Department of Tourism. Lapu-Lapu Shrine – This 20-meter bronze statute marks the place where the native Chieftain Lapu-lapu defeated and killed Ferdinand Magellan (however, the victory was shortlived as the Philippines was colonized by the Spanish for 300 years..) (sorry for the quality..it was overcast..)

My God Jennie, first this is a shocker for me! Thank you so much. Secondly..your shots are fabulous. So well composed with great contrast and color. You have such a gift in being able to spy out things that will make a beautiful picture and then apply your talent to it only compliments it. I love all four of these. Thirdly Jennie I did not know Cebu was the oldest city in the Philippines, so much history there and I appreciate you passing this on to me. As one day I have every intention to return to the Philippines, I loved it. I will also make sure and visit Basilica of Santo Nino, Magellan's Cross, Fort San Pedro and the Lapu-Lapu Shrine. I have actually went through my photos of my visit there and posted some on my flickr and one day will post them here at dps. Jennie you have done so well with this I am flabber gasted! Thank you again

Hi Jennie. Great shots and, as ever, a very informative narrative. You have allowed to me to see on my screen what I may never see in the flesh, and I always learn some thing new when you post. Thank you so much. PAUL

Wow Jennie... these are great shots... I have now added the Philippines to my places to visit before I die. My daughter has friends from the Philippines and they are always excited to go back for a visit... I should be a stowaway in their luggage
. I love your perspective in the first shot... fantastic! I've seen that Anthony Bourdain episode and well... if he says it's good, I believe it.
