Default Product Shots

My brother in law was here last week and brought me some of his seasoning salt he is putting on the market. he left me some samples and asked my to take a couple of photos. I don't have anything in the way of lighting but these were my results. Should I send these to him or scratch these and start over?

Hey VEGASMIKE,

Can you make the FLICKR album public so we can see the larger versions (if there are any.

I like these... a lot. I think the first is my favorite, but I can't put my finger on why.

They all look very nice. I bet if you pick your favorite and post it over in the critique section along with the exif data, folks there can give you some more in depth analysis!

I think they're great, Mike. Especially for an up and coming brand. I think they would benefit from a little directional lighting though...

Nice shots. As an entrepreneur, I'd be happy with them!

Hi Mike - excellent first time attempt at something like this .. I like the setup .. maybe an added light as Jim suggested and also, some "breathing" room for the products .. left and right ... other than that, they all look great

Thanks, Jim. I may try playing with some different lamps I have around the house.

Thanks, Hayward. I'll go back and look at my originals and see if I could crop them another way.

I like the first very much. Here's why. The nature of the product, Salt of the Earth, benefits from the earthy quality of the setting and even the low light. Your composition is balanced between sideways lid, spoon and different size cans. The sheen on the can and the spoon is just right. I wish the lid on the left had a little more space. When the decision was made to put the spice in cans like these, they veered away from the concept of "new" or "modern" to harkening back to a day when products came in can like these. The other shots seem too up to date for the packaging which is why I like the first.

Definitely the first one! It's more appealing to me... Looks throw-back! Great work, nicely done.

I think the 1st and 2nd shots might work. I like the star bursts created on the spoon in the 1st shot and the b/w conversion is working in the second shot!! Good choice for backgrounds on both too.
