Don't Stop... In Color... 2 Takes
I was trying to figure out which photo had the best composition...

I like the first for the overall composition......it has depth and scale whereas the 2nd shot is a bit one dimensional and flat. Yet if the true focus is the message then the 2nd one is the one to use.......but then the bright pencils would be a distraction and overwhelm the message......so for me it's #1

I agree with Patrick 100%. The depth makes all the difference...vs the 2D feeling of the second one. Nice shot to boot!! Number 1 is better for more reasons than composition....DOF, thirds, exposure...you name it.

I like the first one myself. It has a real sense of depth and balance. Love the colors too.
