Default Football at ISO 200

09 Football 11A Semi Finals TC at Milbank 07

I was covering a high school playoff game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I like to get pregame shots for player IDs later. With plenty of sun I thought why not try ISO 200? Even though I had to dial down the speed to 320/sec, this was 1 of the results . . . kind of surprised me.

Thanks again. I really like how rich and deep the color is combined with the crispness of the detailed action. Hard to get both in sports photography.

Ripper action shot - and lighting. I would clone out the distracting red marker?

I looked at this shot for ages (well, minutes) before I read your text underneath, and I was thinking, "This is going to be a great catch, why the heck is nobody in the crowd watching?"

Then I read that it was only pre-game practice! Nice shot anyway, even if it wasn't going to be a match-winning moment.

I know it looks decieving in the pre game shots but it was a packed house for the game. You have to actually be down on the field/court to appreciated the roar of a huge crowd when a great play has been made. One of the perks of getting to cover the games. I have some decent shots of the game on flickr under 73rocks . . . but I didn't quite get "the killer shot" I wanted.

Thanx - I appreciate the constructive critisism. Sometimes I will crop out any distractions or anything that does not add to the shot or help put the action in perspective but I also like to keep in certain details that "anchors" the action to the game situation. I also restricted to the fact that I process all my shots in a 4 X 6 format so I am limited to what I can and can't do. And lastly I have to keep in mind the fact that the editor likes the shots nice and tight, so a lot of times I will crop out some major details.

Case in point - this is the cropped shot that I turned into the paper to use:
09 Football Wilmot at GP 70C

Nice shot (except I was behind the play so I didn't get their faces). Look at that shot and then look at what was cropped out:
09 Football Wilmot at GP 70

Same shot - two whole different perspectives.
