Default A newly discovered constellation named after DPS!!

...so, I'm sitting on my putting green last night..just me, my D3, and a cool glass of Crown Royal. I was waiting patiently for the meteor shower that was supposed to happen around midnight or so. That time came and went, with nary a rock fallen! So I started getting bored, and started star-writing!! (can I coin another term..."astrocalligraphy?")

When you add boredom, a camera, and a slowly diminishing glass of Crown on the rocks, you get this! I've heard of the constellations, Orion, Scorpius, and Gemini, but I bet you'll be hard pressed to find an astronomer, not even Galileo, who's heard of the DPS constellation! I'm not sure which star this was. Try it tonight! It's harder than you think!!! (upside down, backward, and right to left)

dps constellation

It took about 120 tries before I was able to get all 3 letters properly in the same frame. I used my D3, 85 f/1.4, and manual (bulb) mode, handheld.

Well, there's astrocartography, so why not astrocalligraphy? You'd better get it on Wiki before someone beats you to the punch! I love it - I love that you are seemingly more obsessed than I am. And I told my husband that the other weekend when we went to Friendly's for lunch with the kids and I ran back in the house to grab my camera. They can't eaven eat in peace!

I have heard of the metour showers and had the same thoughts, but the city lights were to bright to really be able to see anything. We all know what a die hard you are Jim and this post is proof!

As Ira Gershwin wrote;
They all laughed at Christopher Columbus when he said the world was round, they all laughed when Edison recorded sound

I'm not laughing at you mate, not like some members.
I'm with you on this one Jim, all we need is a practical application of astrocalligraphy and we can retire on the royalities and franchises.
