Default Indian Men and Women

We have a very large Indo-Canadian population in our school area, and so i see many Indian men and women outside, waiting for their grandchildren each day. The one thing I find interesting, is that the men and the women are always in separate groups, chatting away, and not acknowledging each other very much. I figure this is a cultural practice that has come over from India, but that is only my impression.

Hi Paul, Social groupings, like these, candid, caught in the act of telling stories, are always fascinating to me. I especially love the the expressions on the women's faces. You caught the two ladies on the left in the midst of a giggle, laughing like girls. Great. Just great.

I'm not Indian but I see non-Indian individulas do the same. It's only natural in a setting like this. And if I were you, I'd ask these people for permission before taking their pictures especialy given their cultural background. Having a long lense doesn't automaticaly give you the right to take people's pictures and publish them.

Why thank you Linda. I always appreciate your insights into people's photos. You are very thoughtful about what you say, and always positive.

Hi Moayad. First off, I know the grandchildren of many of these people, and I did ask permission as I am a teacher, and do not want liability issues coming back to haunt me. This discussion came up at one of our photo club meetings, and I have also talked to many excellent professional photographers about the issue of permission. Most people I have talked to agree and say that you should ask, but many people take photos of individuals in public places without permission, and post them online. I also agree that Indian people are not the only people that act in this manner, and that was definitely not what I was implying. No problem, though. I can assure you that as a teacher I have the utmost respect for every human being, and would never take a cultural issue for granted. I was merely sharing an observation. Take care.

Hi Paul. I am learning, through shots like these, that pictures do much more than produce an image. They capture, culture, moods, feelings, emotions. They tell stories, create memories and make perfect gifts. I am sure these people, esp. the ladies would love a copy of this for thier albums. Thanks for these my friend, they provided a cheery (and thoughtful) start to my day. God bless. PAUL

Hi Paul, it's great that you get out and get these candids to share, The Black and White works well with these. I need to try more of this type of photography.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael.

(That’s it. I am going berserk! Lol..not really..i know you can look after yourself.. )

let me then focus to your beautiful photograph..i like the mood and the expressions of the ladies..your photo conveys camaraderie and your story imparts the importance of family in one’s life..my mom is working since we were little and doesn’t really have the time to fetch us..(but I do understand)..luckily, I have a sister..we usually go home together.. tnx for the memory lane Paul..
