As a young boy, my family would spend part of the August holidays as we call it, (Summer in other words) in Mayaro, a rural fishing village on our East coast. We had a family beach house there and I still have wonderful memories of crab hunting and fishing, bar-b-quing on the beach, playing beach cricket, and having many adventures with my brother and cousins. Well like everything else times have changed and I haven't been to Mayaro in years. As life would have it I had to visit a town nearby for work purposes this last Saturday, and decided to drive out to a favourite place of mine. Of course I had to take along my Canon and captured some shots of a still peaceful village. Here are the first four of many. Hope you enjoy.
A stone breakwater along the beach. Somehow high tides are much higher than years ago. A product of global warming I assume. ![]() A fish stall with some of the day's catch ![]() Bet you never saw a coconut tree shaped like this, this area has many of the islands coconut estates. ![]() A family trying to catch their daily meal, I believe the froth looking thing in the water is some chemical from the oil drilling rigs, all around our East coast. Environmental damage as well as global warming. ![]() Let me know what you think.

This looks like a great place to visit Michael. I love fishing villages. The first shot is like a painting and I like the one of the fish stall. TFS.

Quite an interesting photographic journey, Michael. I like the perspective of your first one and the golden tones of the rocks and golden tones in the palm trees. I also enjoyed seeing the shots of life in the village.

what a great set of photos. I am glad you had a chance to visit your old holiday place. Though must have been sad to see the effects "modern" living has had on this village. As photographers it is important that we preserve images of the past for the future. Thanks for sharing.
