Default A very dark concert venue

This isn't even officially a concert venue - it's an art gallery with a stage. It has "openings" in which musicians play and you're quite welcome to buy the artwork on sale!

I went mainly to see my friend Brian Lopez and some other friends opening. I'm going back tonight to see the them again, and thinking I will see what I can get with my 85mm f/1.8. All photos from this night a couple weeks ago were 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Headliner was Depedro from Spain - Jairo Zavala is the gentleman's name. 5 members of Calexico played as his backing band at times.

Brian and Salvador Duran, a legend in Tucson both in the art and musical communities. And immigrant from Mexico, he creates some of the most amazing artwork and music, and it's fantastic to sit with a cup of coffee and listen to him discuss his life experiences. It shows on his face - and the adoration these two have for each other, and the contrast in youth and inexperience with age and wisdom are so beautiful.

The one person I really loved the light on - it was lovely and soft and haunting, and perfectly matched the sounds from her instrument - was the cello player, Mona. I was definitely focusing on the bow in this photo, because it was lit even more nicely than her face!

My little brother was with me, and he actually walked up to the stage to look at the drum setup and pointed out to me how good the guitars looked with their lighting. So credit for this goes to Mathias!

This is the same set which includes the old-style photo of my friend Jack down a narrow hallway with people lining it and light only on him. That was the pathway next to the stage. Full set here:

Thanks! I loved that I captured his lean as he really got into his playing there.

Thank you! What you wrote above is exactly what I try to do when taking photos - I let myself feel the music, then attempt to get images which show what it all makes me feel.

Thanks!

I have some shots from last night I'll get up soon. I used the 85mm and got more parts of instruments, angles on faces, that sort of thing, rather than full torsos. Just a different effect with a lens with bokeh I really appreciate.
