This street vendor is selling Cascarones, which are colorful confetti-filled eggs and are commonly seen at parties and festivals throughout the southwestern states. Crack them over someone's head and you bring someone good luck. In Santa Barbara, California the streets are filled with confetti after a festival. In Tucson, however, that is not the case as much. Cascarones here are more elaborate and are collected as folk art. You can see by the photo below, that they are individually hand painted and decorated. This time of year they are commonly found at the yearly celebration of Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) which is why you also see paper mache skulls.
![]() This gentleman--in all senses of the word--was involved in the food preparation at the Thai booth. The fried bananas were delicious. One way to tell the story of Tucson Meet Yourself is via the hats. This was one of my favorites. ![]() Since photographing this group, Batucaxe, I have attended several of their dance lessons. Picture a classroom of 20 or so dancing to live drumming and other percussion instruments. The rule is this: If you can still walk the next day, you come back! I loved their energy and thought I would end this series with one more collage of their wonderful, smiling, energetic faces.

My dear friend Linda. Sorry I missed the rest of this set, this is my comeback post, thank you so much for all you have done to help, I always love the way you present your photographs, thank you for sharing this set. The last one reminds me of the party that is shortly going to happen here on DPS as a thank you to all my wonderful friends. May I invite your Batucaxe as my singers for the night.

Hi Linda. I love this set, and the stories/ historical information that you provided with them. My father was a buddhist at heart, and that is why I like the one with the monk the best. There is also something about the composition of his "portrait" that leads me to his shot. The dance group sounds just wonderful, and I can see you now dancing around with them having a great time. Thanks for sharing these.
