Default Two Extremes

Just a couple of shots I had stowed away for a rainy day, and it is pouring outside! These helped distract me from the inclement weather lately. Two Extremes here. The first a classical sunrise in B&W in the weee hours of the morning. The second a minimalist shot with some texture and shapes.

Thanks Leona. I know that sunsets (and this sunrise) look fantastic in colour, but I am trying different things/ subjects in B&W to see what works. Thanks for the feedback.

Very cool indeed. Love the sunset in B&W - great mountains on the horizon & fabulous water lines for contrast. The bricks look neat in B&W too, fun shapes and contrast here.

Thanks Nicky. Like I said to Leona, like playing around with B&W on any image to see what works and what does not. That was the advice that a very good B&W photographer said to do so you can learn how to see better in B&W. Cheers.

Hi Paul - I like both of your images ... each with its own distinct theme .. I do a lot of experiment with my photos too .. someone had a post here not too long ago where certain colors were pulled off the image .. it looks pretty neat ..

I agree with leona, the sunset would have been better in colour. But b&w are good too, a bit saddening for me.

Thanks Hayward. For me, life is all about trying new things. You were probably thinking about Mike's (Dizwold) work. He has been having fun with selective colouring lately

Thanks for the comment. I am glad you mentioned this as I find that B&W brings out different emotions, which is a good thing, be it sadness, joy etc.

Thank you DRs. I am torn between these two as I have been enjoying looking at more abstract work lately. The sunrise is nice, but in so many ways very common. Maybe that's why I chose to go B&W...Hmmmm....

I figured I would post the original for Leona and soulsearcher:

I vote for the sunrise in b/w. I think the b/w version is more unique, more artistic. The contrast is much more striking. And I already know what a beautiful, color sunset looks like. The b/w version makes me want to stare into it for a good long time. The color version, I think, "Nice sunset." And move on.
