Default Step into the light...

I was at a concert (still haven't gone through those photos yet) and after playing drums in the opening set, my friend Jack was enjoying the headliner by the back door. I looked over and the light was too perfect not to take this shot of him. He moved right after I took it, so I didn't get to try to get a slightly better focus on his face. Turns out I think I like it with him not 100% in focus anyway, because the smokers were all out that door making things hazy...

Excellent shot, G! I can't believe you got such excellent exposure at that distance with that lighting. Well done!!

Hi netG. This has a wierdly wonderful look about it. It looks for all the world like an oil painting by one of the old masters. The word that springs to mind is captivating. I love it. Thanks for sharing this. PAUL

Thanks! That was ISO 1600, f/1.8 and 1/50sec. My handy dandy little nifty fifty at work! I knew that show it was the only lens I could use - super dark room, and I'd also have to be right next to the stage so the 85mm wouldn't work. I've been practicing my focus on points at a distance lately, so that quick turn and shoot was definitely practice doing it! The exif data says I edited something in picnik - I think I cropped it, and don't think I did anything else, though I don't remember for sure.

Thanks! That was kind of my impression when I looked over and saw the way the light was hitting Jack with the dark lines of people around him. One of those shots you have to take if you see it!
