Default Let's go down into the gorge to the valley floor

Before we went to the higher elevations, we took a valley trail called the Rock Bridge trail.....I'll show you the bridge tomorrow......

We hiked down the side of a ravine and when we got down to the damp valley floor where the ferns and rhododendrons live, we came across this moss covered log crossing our trail that was steaming....letting off its heat in the early morning chill.

About a half mile down, you come to this small waterfall......look mom, no tripod! Didn't know if I could pull this off or not without a tripod but it turned out ok....braced the camera against a tree and tried to be very still for a longer exposure.

Another shot using the same method

A little further down, we turned a bend and I saw these two gleaming white trunks up against the variety of color and I had to stop the troops and "ready, aim and fire"

Very nice waterfall shots, and the last is great with the contrast between the white tree trunks and all the color.

Nice shots, Patrick. I love the steam coming off the trunk. Beatiful colors in the last one. Nice find!

Thanks for sharing.

great shots Patrick! everything is well composed and the water is still silky with no tripod..(got to remember that trick of bracing it to a stable one)..i have to agree with Hayward..you are definitely having a good exercise and obviously having a great time in your walks..there's really a treasure in every bend waiting to be captured..my fave would be..yes..you guessed it right..the last one with the beautiful white trunk and yellow sparkling leaves..it would stand out amidst those trees..tnx..

Hayward, if you only knew how lazy I am.....Call me for a round of golf.....I am there....want to go shooting with the camera...I am there......just want to hike the Appalachian trail....no fun.....lets go play golf! Hiking is better when you have a camera though. I just needed to go because of the timing of the season and my work schedule so I could capture the Fall color
