Default Coloured Crazy Clouds

I could not resist posting a couple more cloud shots from the other day. I decided to include only HDR versions as I like them, and their B&W counterpart. This is not for a comparison for critique, so I hope the mods are okay that I do this. Just wanted to share the results. They are different shots than the other ones as well. I did do some burning and dodging in the cloud areas this time. I think the colour in the HDR shots is a bit too vibrant, but I thought I would leave them alone to give you an idea of what I started with.

Wow, more great shots of those clouds! I know many people don't like HDR, but I'm a fan of it when used on the right shots, and when it's not too overdone. I really love it here.

whoa! another set of crazy clouds..these are striking and odd at the same time..the mood in the b&w conversion is very different from the colored ones..the b&w highlights the heavy clouds..can almost feel the wind in that one..on the other hand, the colored version..even with those clouds still seemed serene to me..my fave is the last one..tnx for sharing..

(i am still thinking about your groceries..lol..)

I really like them. I'm not a fan of overdone HDR, but I don't think those qualify. The color is great - just looks super-saturated, like Velvia.

Thanks Nicky. I have been agonizing over the whole HDR pp, and I am still not 100% sold on it in colour, but I like it for B&W conversions as it allows that great dynamic range in tones. Cheers.

Hey Jennie. Yes, and this will be the last post of these crazy clouds. I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about the different feeling between the two versions. I was thinking exactly the same thing just as I hit the "submit" button this morning! Great minds....?

I feel the same way, Martha, and do not really like when HDR is overdone. It might be fun to test members and post two HDR's, and then state that only one is hDR to see who can figure it out! What do you think? Sounds like fun to me, and Halloween is right around the corner, so it would be a fun prank. Oops. everyone will know that reads this post! Hellooooo....McFly!

Great shots on all four counts. Although each treatment is different from its couterpart, they feel like two completely different shots. I REALLY like the contrast of the bench and pavement in the b/w. Well done!

Thanks Patrick. I found the same thing very interesting as well. Funny how colour affects mood, and how B&W becomes more ominous. I tend to think it has to do with the colours in the clouds that provide a more restful feeling. Take care, and as always, your comments mean a lot to me.

Hi Jim. Glad you liked the photos, and the treatments. I like the last one as well for exactly the same reasons. I have been checking out tons of tutorials on B&W conversions using Lightroom 2, and these have been a great resource to help me with that process. I know I mentioned it already in one of your posts, but congratulations again on the sale of the prints. You are very deserving of this sale, and I say this based on the quality of the photos you have posted here on DPS. I still want your gear though!
