Default New DSLR at the Melbourne Zoo

Last month I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D5000. The next day I took it to the Melbourne Zoo. What fun! Beats the heck out of my old Nikon FTN.

Hi JustJim! I would really like to learn how to do the effect in the last one, I'll have to get out my CS4 book and see If I can figure it out.
Thanks for sharing this
Michael.

Default Thanks

Thank you all for your kind comments. No, the tablet doesn't take long to master, it's just like pen and paper, Elements, however, is going to take a little longer. Of course I should master the camera first!

Chewy's Dad, there is a discussion of the 'OOB' technique on DPS here, and a tutorial for PS or PSE here.

Thanks again everybody.

Looks like you've been enjoying your new camera...and you've done well with it. I really like the effect of that last shot...very cool.

Welcome to the DPS family JustJim

These are all great, but the last one is fantastic, I love the way you have the tortoise look like it is coming out of the frame. Great reflection in the bird nesting one and the swinging ape looks like he is having fun. TFS these great shots.

And thank you, too. The Orang Utan shot needs some work on shadow recovery. The shot I've posted has been upped by 1.5EV over the whole image, but I think I need to do some more localised work.
