A perfect day out on the water on the Thames coast, the water was mirror calm and the sun glistened of the water sparkling like diamonds. The only thing mssing to make it even more perfect was fish. Steve, myself and Pauline (Keenlearner) and my father-in-law went fishing today only there was a lack of fish. We came home with 4 fish just over 30cm long, the legal take home length for snapper in NZ is 27cms. We did catch some starfish and mussels so it was still an enjoyable day.
Armed with our fishing rods, enthusiam and our P&S cameras (we didn't want to risk getting our more expensive cameras wet) we set out towards the mussel farm which is a favourite fishing spot for many fishermen. After 4 hours of calm waters and a thoughly relaxing afternoon we decided to head back towards shore and try fishing in shallow water (30 feet) as we were'nt catching anything in 80 feet. No sooner had we droped anchor than the wind picked up and the water became rough so we headed back in. When we reached the boat ramp, the waves came crashing over the back of the hull and the force pushed the boat from side to side. Mother nature sure did a number on us, we ended up getting drenched as well as the boat getting fill of water. All in all it was still an enjoyable day for our fist fish of the season. We fished close by hoping to catch some fish that were feeding on the mussels. ![]() Another boat hoping for a good catch ![]() My one and only catch of the day. A few mussels is better than nothing so I'm happy. ![]() Thanks for looking. I will add some more photos soon

Nice set Angela, tough luck with the fishing, but great luck with the photos. I believe that type of fish is called a grunt here, because of the grunting noise it makes.

Fabulous set Angela and you didn't have your Nikon D90 with you ( understand that ). Great shots though - My pick is the seagull taking off from the rock followed by Pauline's fish that she caught. Cheers, Bernz
