Default The world's smallest drawbridge (Nova Scotia, of course!)

Sandford drawbridge is the smallest drawbridge in the world - located at the Sandford wharf, just outside Yarmouth, NS. It allows fishermen & visitors to cross from one side of the harbor to the other without having to go all the way around the inner harbor via the road.

The weather was weird when I was there (sans polarizer, having recently thrown it in the river, if you remember....) - it went from rainy & grey to a misty, blown out sky and finally turned blue - all within about an hour! But here are some of my favorite shots anyway. It's quite a neat little bridge.

This last one captures the mist at the wharf!

I assume that you are on a boat taking the first two?? They have a very quaint feel about them....the last shot looks so cold and desolate excepting the foliage which indicates it's at least above freezing

Beautiful symetry in the first two...excellent color! ...and I'm a sucker for a good reflection in the water. Well done.

Jim

PS...I missed the polarizer in the water story. Is that why you super-glued your current one??

Very nice. I especially like the reflection in the first shot.

Patrick, no I was standing on land taking the 1st couple - actually I was right by the green boat you see in the 3rd shot. That area in front of the bridge was mostly a huge puddle just beyond the road (the line of which you can see below the mist in the last shot too). Funnily enough, in keeping with most of the photo opportunities I found in NS, it WAS desolate (again, I was alone there!), but it was quite warm, in spite of the misty appearance!

Hey Nicky. I really like this set, especially the last photo. The atmosphere/ mood really reflects the area. TFS, and keep up the great work.

Oh Jim, the day beforehand on my trip, I'd been leaning against a bridge taking pics in Liverpool, NS & watched helplessly as my polarizer fell into the river below! I've been checking the new one like a nervous parent every 3 minutes.

Hi Nicky - that bridge is very interesting ... it looks like the tide can get pretty high around here ... nicely done

Those are beautiful photos. I love the first one - the symmetry with the reflection in the water is perfect. And the colors are gorgeous. I've always wanted to visit Nova Scotia, and your pictures only make me want to go more!

As usual, nice shots, Nicky! For some reason, those photos have such a "homey" feel to them...so welcoming and comforting in a way. Great job!

BTW...why is a cute gal like you doing all this shooting all by your lonesome?! That just doesn't seem right!
