Default Kentucky is not all rolling hills and horse farms

Today I took my kids to the Red River Gorge about an hour at the most from Lexington. This gorge is situated in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I wanted to be sure and capture what Fall colors might have been out there this year. These 4 shots were taken from an overlook point which views two huge rock formations......Now to get a feel.....I am standing on the point of a ridge and it is the center of the clock .....

This shot is backlit by the sun and is located in the 8 o'clock position back over my left shoulder
DSC_4634

Very harsh lighting conditions looking at Half Moon Rock. It is backlit and the front of the rock in is shadow....If you look really hard, there are a couple of people on it. This is the 10o'clock position
DSC_4640

Much better lighting being sun drenched.....This is Chimney Top and is located at the 1 o'clock position
DSC_4639

Just to the right at 2 to 3 position is this colorful valley
DSC_4643

I will post the 4th and 5th shots here when allowed to complete the panorama

I would love to see these stitched together if possible.

Had it been a cloudy day where the lighting was consistent and if I had taken all the shots with teh same setting and on a tripod, I might have been able to pull it off. The focal lengths are all a bit different too......I did not even think to try to create a panoramic shot......I'll have to do that next time!

for direct sun blasting your views, I think you did a great job of getting crisp colors and good details.. Wonderful colors Patrick and a really beautiful park.

Daniel Boone was a man, yes a Big Man ......

Great shots, the colors look spectacular. Three and four do stand out for the lighting as you stated, but they all look great. I sure miss the fall colors, thanks for reminding me.

Beautiful photography and excellent work under the bright lighting conditions. I especially like the second shot; with all those colors, it looks like a rose garden.

I am sure that you have such colors if not even better up there in the NE!

Great Fall colors Patrick, the last two are the best, but you couldn't control the lighting being in a fixed position.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael.
