Default Moeraki Boulders & Other Natural Formations.......

Moeraki Boulders, North Of Dunedin NZ

Moeraki Boulders, North Of Dunedin.
Perfectly round boulders. These boulders each weigh several tonnes and are often more than 2 metres in diameter. Their history is very interesting.

Cliff Face, Karangahake Gorge NZ

This is an optical illusion. Although it appears as a line of rocky pinnacles, the black is actually the roof overhang as we looked out through a window in a rock formation of the tunnel. The walkway is beneath this rock face.

Local Māori legends explained the boulders as the remains of eel baskets, calabashes, and kumara washed ashore from the wreck of an Arai-te-uru, a large sailing canoe.

A good set but the first two are my blue robbon images. These are really interesting, I think I could spend a week photographing those boulders, and what a fascinating legend to go with them, great post Pauline

I'm a bit of a geology nerd so I always love learning about new formations! Too bad these are a little outside of my backyard. I also love the first 2 pictures of this set. Great job, and thanks for posting.

Many thanks Michael. Anything formed by nature is wonderful in my eyes, and the first two were extremely interesting

Thankyou Steve, and I'm very pleased to see you have been a good boy and done your homework LOL The history is indeed very interesting and well worth the read.
