Default DPS Student Shoots a Wedding

Hello Friends,

As many of you know, I have been waiting since the spring for today and my opportunity to shoot a couples wedding whose engagement at the beach I shot in april. I knew it would be a challange, I did not know just how difficult it was going to be.

I think my own experiance is a good reminder for all of us that it's all about quaility and quaility comes from experiance and knowlege. I am humbled by the experiance and have a new found appreciation for professionals. That being said, I am a DPS member and I did not embarrass myself.

I found the church extremely difficult with all the guests in the way and the poor lighting, but I did get some good shots eventually, such as Maria placing the ring on Paul's finger

I have more from the church to work on,, I was much more comfortable once we moved outside, since I know little of using my new speedlite and understand natural lighting alot more ( flash bouncing and flash settings are a whole new ballgame ) , her's Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale,

Because she will NEVER know how much I've learned from her as she learned and shared
I have to mention Susan Harrington in regards to this adorable Flowergirl, Susan all those practice shots of Victoria you've shared are why I was able to capture this loverly little girl the way I did THANK YOU Sis !!

I have over 300 photos to review and edit, but I'd like to close with one I think is of good quaility and worthy of of calling myself a photgrapher ( though still a rookie )

I owe alot to this place, the knowledge I've gained and will continue to gain, the support of such a diverse group of friends and fellow photogs, you guys gave me confidence to walk into this event and feel good and enjoy myself.. I kept wishing a bird would fly in so I could shoot something I knew. I did learn a vital lesson today, people move and thier expressions make or break the shot... which I thought I knew, but had no idea how hard it is to get a focused shot of a smile ...

Linda, Haywood and Ruthie thank you for your words of encouragement and mentoring, I thought often of your advice today.

And I want to thank all my good Friends here , I had a blast... I will be sharing more as I review them, and I hope you get a little of the excitement and enjoyment I felt today... I am exhausted, feet hurt and my camera battery is dead... but I wouldn't have traded it for a million dollars.

btw, I got an advance of $200 , so altough I wouldn't call myself a pro, I am a photographer and feel like one !

Vin

Vin, you should be very, very proud of the way these turned out...they are brilliant...especially for your first go at photographing a wedding. I'm sure Maria and Paul will be thrilled with them. The second one is my fave.

Thanks Steve, completely different then taking a walk along the shore looking for birds or deer, but it was great experiance.. as always I really appreciate your words of encouragement.

Here's a few more I've been working on, nothing set in stone yet, just seeing what I might do with the raw files.

IMG_7961a

a little high key ( I thought the White Bridal gown might work with this style.

IMG_7952 modified

lesson learned, gotta get more then two shots of here comes the bride, I was out of postion and did not have the speedlite on continous, I'm not sure if her expression works, it's quite difficult to get expressions

IMG_8324
levels adjustment, softened, eyes brighten and skin tones made more appealing.. give me a Swan in sunlight over skin tones and 3 or 4 flashes going off
