Default Vacation Adventure- Day 3 - part 1

Day 3 of our vacation took us back to the Smoky Mountains, via the long way. I had hoped to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway but it was closed. Originally just a section was closed due to threat of a rock slide so I had my route planned. It took us thru Pisgah National Forrest, which was beautiful..... and we came upon this....

Looking Glass Falls... Pisgah National Forrest, NC
Looking Glass Falls - NC Day 3

As we climbed higher, we noticed snow in the trees. Then as we turned to get on the parkway, it was closed - but at the overlook we saw this.....

Overlook - Blue Ridge Parkway - Day 3

So we had to go the long way back to the park because the parkway was closed all the way. As we entered the park on the NC side, we found Mingo Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Unfortunately, the exposure is off on this one and the water would not turn out dreamy no matter what I did, but it shows the magnitude and glory of the falls.

Then as we travelled up the mountain, we ran across this....

Mountain Stream - Day 3

Stay tuned for Day 3 - Part 2 (snow !!!!)

Penary was there too and saw snow.....hard to believe it was TN already. Mingo Falls is nice isn't it if it weren't so hard to find.......I know where it's at now but the first time, I was really nervous driving through some rough little neighborhoods with no clear signage......not a long hike, but it is straight up!
