I work for a Field Artillery battalion based out of Fort Lewis, WA. I grew up in the military, too, so I have a special love for the Army. For a year and a half, I tried to get a good shot of the guys praying while they were in formation, but I just wasn't able to get in the right place for some of the ceremonies.
They deployed this past July to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The day I took this shot, they were casing their colors. In this particular battery, only a few people were deploying, and I managed to get this shot. I love how SGT Ursitti's hat is different from the rest of the group, so it pulls your eyes to him (and it doesn't hurt that he's a very good looking guy). In the group shown in this picture, he was the one that left for Afghanistan that day. Enjoy!

Very nice and very special too. May their prayers for safety, success in their mission and a speedy return be answered.

I agree the one different hat makes this image stand out and draws attention. I love images with mood and emotion and this image has just that! Could maybe also work as a B&W?

You've captured a moment that is both very private and very universal. The hat makes it. Nice job.
