Default Rowing Boat on the lake

On one of my weekend walks I came across this small lake with rowing boat.
It was one of those days where you think you are not going to see anything worth taking a photo of when almost at the end of the walk I saw this.

Boat on lake 1

Boat on lake 2

Good eye, Carl! I really like the wide angle perspective of the first one. You used it very well. Too many people think that wide angle is so that you can get it all in...but that's not the real purpose behind wide angle...as I've come to learn. You used it well!

Isn't that always the case about photography...if you're looking, you'll never find....then a good opp comes up and slaps you in the face when least expected!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments Jim,
I only recently purchased my Canon 10-22mm lens and its a learning curve.
It's so different to use compared to my other lens and as you said its not just about getting it all in as this often makes for pictures with large areas of nothingness.

Carl

Hi Carl. Definitely worth the perseverence. I sometimes find that I only discover I got a good shot when I get back home and download them. This one portrays a sense of tranquility, and the boat is asking to be taken out. I love it. BTW where is this? PAUL

Hi Paul,

I was walking in Winchcombe just outside of Cheltenham. this small lake was not far from the back of Sudeley Castle.
I never new it was there so it was a luck find on my walk.

Interesting you should mention HDR.
I nearly did this in three exposures as the sky was very bright when I took these pictures.
I was unable to bring out the full detail due to exposing the foreground & boat properly.
I recently bought a Grad ND filter which I did not take as initially it was a dark, overcast day. that will teach me to presume the weather.
May be next time.

Carl

Good luck next time. This is not say that these pictures aren't good. I actually really like #2 except that the right part of the sky is blown out. Other than that, really nice.
