I just got back from a vacation in Hawaii. We stayed in a nice place on Waikiki Beach. I played around with second curtain flash a lot taking shots of my wife and me on the balcony at sunset. One evening I tried something else. First of all I used a Canon 580EX II flash off camera with a small softbox. I exposed for the background, with a shutter speed of 30 seconds. The flash was set for second curtain in manual mode with power at 1/16th. I stood on one side for about 25 seconds then moved to the other side and waited for the flash. I did this a few times at different shutter speeds and liked the early results but tried to refine it more. I was happy with what you see below because the two ghost images are about evenly exposed (not perfectly evenly but close enough to satisfy me). BTW, this was not photoshopped at all. I did some work in ACR and that was it. White balance is a little warm to me and I'll revisit that later when I go back to edit.
Here is the EXIF: Camera: Canon EOS 40D Lens: Canon ES 24-105mm f/4L Exposure: 30 Aperture: f/8.0 Focal Length: 24 mm ISO Speed: 100 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: On, Fired And here is the image:
