Philippines - Puerto Princessa Subterranean River National Park is known famously as the Palawan Underground River. It was declared as a world heritage site and is now in the running for the new seven wonders of the world..
we reached it by riding a pump boat..the mouth of the underground river awaits at the end of the monkey trail..(the tourist guide warned us about the monkeys cause they are known to grab tourist bags..but I was more apprehensive about my camera..lol..) ![]() the river stretch up to 8 km but only 4 km of which is navigable ..(only two bancas were allowed inside..one going in and one going out..and we have to wait for our turn..guess what we did? Take pictures of course..i even have one with the monkeys..haha..) ![]() the entrance is engulfed by stalactites which are surprisingly colorful..almost abstract..(it was very dark inside and the only source of light is a kerosene lamp..and a makeshift spotlight..the guide keeps splashing the water and jokingly tells us that the splashes are made by water snakes..which drew nervous laughter from us..yikes..) ![]() we navigated the river for almost an hour..the rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites were quite remarkable and well-preserved (it was too dark to get decent pictures but i am trying to salvage some of them)...i thought my eyes would hurt a little upon emerging but the lush greenery outside is cool to the eyes..
