This is my hometown, Penang Island (Pulau Pinang). I spend my childhood here and still returns here every few month.
Penang is known as 'The Pearl of the Orient'. Georgetown, the capital of Penang has been declared as one of 'UNESCO World Heritage Sites' a couple of years ago and readers have voted Penang, 2nd place for 'The New York Times : The 44 Places to Go in 2009' under the food category. This shot was taken from Air Itam Dam. At the bottom of the hill is the Ayer Itam town. Further up is Georgetown city, and on the other side of the ocean is the main land of Malaysia. ![]() This is Kek Lok Si temple. It's also at the bottom of the above shot. Although it has been shot to death by almost every photographer ever to visit Penang, and being just a walking distance from where I used to live (my parents' house), this is the first time ever, I have taken it's photo. ![]() Georgetown, view from a ferry, just like the one below. ![]() These babies are very old. Guess I shouldn't be calling the babies then. Ok... These grannies have been going back and forth between Penang Island and the main land as far as I can remember. They've seen a fair share of tragedies, like cars driven through the safety gate into the ocean and the jetty collapsing. ![]() Hope you enjoy a little showcase of my hometown. Great Post and Thanks for showing us around your home town. I know what you mean about temples. You see them so often, that you don't even think about them. I've got dozens of pictures of the Grand Palace in Thailand as well as many other Temples there, but so does everyone else who visits these places. So I don't post them because of that.
But I'm glad you did as I have never been to Malasia. Thanks for sharing these Michael.
