Default New to threads- Bee honest but kind, please:)

Spent the day at a local park and got some shots I'm proud/brave enough to show. Please be honest. I've been learning photography for the past year, and every constructive critique has helped me immeasurably.

Data:
Sony A-200 with meter mode center wtd. TTL.
Bounced flash with my hand under on-camera flash
Focal lgth: 70mm (18-70mm Sony kit lens)
f/5.6
1/160 sec.
ISO 200
Aperture priority shot in RAW. Exposure bias of -0.70 then adjusted exposure, saturation, and contrast in editing software. Converted to filtered B/W.
Here is the same photo in color:

The Data is the same for this next photo:

Thanks for looking

Welcome to DPS, Linda! Nice shots. I like the last one best. It shows a nice profile, with good bokeh and composition. The first one has a nice b/w treatment, but the head-on shot doesn't show much bee definition. Closeups are an ambitious start, and you seemed to handle them well. Thanks for sharing. You'll find a lot of nice people here on DPS...very encouraging, and a lot of fun! Looking forward to more.

Jim

PS...if you get a chance, check out the "How I Took It Forum." Lots of great tips. Here's one I started with one of my bee shots: Bee wings frozen in time

Default Bee-ing good on Sunday

Thanks for the feedback...I liked the last one the best as well. I did not like the head-on in color, so I figured I'd just go simple. Thanks for the bokeh comment. I saw the assignment posted a week or so ago...and I've been trying to get it right. I have more bee shots in my album/profile if anyone has time to look.

Well, showing my work didn't hurt a bit Oh, my name is Michelle...but hey I can be "Linda"... that is my best friend's name! "Lynn" is my middle name.

Sorry, Michelle! There are several Lindas I correspond with and kept typing autonomously after the "L." Keep up the great work. I'd love to see some more.
