Default Dead End

Took my little grandson for a walk and a photo shoot on Columbus Day and grabbed this shot on our walk.

I've just started shooting in RAW on Manual setting with my Rebel. I'm out of my comfort zone of auto and am still learning how to compose with the correct camera settings.

Some post processing is needed to bring the colors out, it looks a little drab.

ISO 200
Shutter 1/200
Aperture f7.1
Focal length 55mm

Thanks for comments (good and bad).
Lynn

that's just how I feel, except that's been going on for over a year now, LOL.

I like the colors.
I think it's really easy to overdo on the processing when dealing with autumn-y colors (the oranges, we never know when to stop)

Beautiful! I'm a beginner too and I found the one book that really helped me learn is
Understanding Photography Field Guide by Bryan Peterson. He writes in such a way that you really get it...not too technical, more in a conversational way. I'm still whipping that book out all the time, it's in my pack. I highly recommend it! You have an eye for the beautiful, I can see that in your photo. This book is helping me to understand my camera so that it will capture what I "see"...again, still learning and loving it!

The composition of this is great! With a little tweaking I bet it will really pop. I have the Rebel XS and I am still learning too....in fact I don't think I have used the Auto settings more than a handful of times since I bought it since I am trying to force myself to learn. It's a slow process, LOL. Hang in there. Blink thanks for that book rec, I will have to look for that one! All the digital photo books at the library hail from the era of 2MP cameras.

Did you use flash? When I look at the photo my eye goes straight to the bottom point (corner) of the sign because of brightness. It's not a bad photo. I might recommend cropping all the leaves on the very bottom out, though. Everything below the green leaves can be cropped. That way the eye is drawn more "into" the photo then to the brown strip of leaves.

Hey, thanks for the comments and suggestions. I didn't use the flash - it must be some sunlight reflecting off the sign.

I can see where the green at the bottom could be cropped out - thanks for that suggestion!

I just have to get Brian Peterson's book - I've heard many good things about it!
