Default Dayton Airshow 2009

My first major outing with my new Canon EOS 450D. The Dayton Airshow was July 18th and 19th, I went on the 18th and got some good shots despite Mother Nature presenting some less-than-favorable shooting conditions.

Early morning shot of the static/performer C-17 Globemaster III on the runway.

Backside of the F4U-5N Corsair performer. A photo pit pass granted early access to the show/limited pre-show flight line access.

USAF Thunderbirds "Diamond" Formation. This shot is a good representation of the crappy shooting conditions that were present throughout the day. The C-17 shot above was one of the first I took in the morning and the clouds got progressively darker all day. The Thunderbirds were the last act, thankfully, because it started to rain while we were walking back to the car.

Thanks. I had early access because I purchased a photo pit pass...this allowed me to get in an hour before the gates opened for the public. Without this early access I would never have been able to get the shot of the C-17.

I'm always trying to come up with new ways to take photos. Normally at airshows all of the static shots are from head-on framing the entire plane. I just set my camera down on the runway and took the shot and this was the result. It's a typical photo being that it's a head-on shot, but by getting low it gives the plane a larger appearance and alters the view just enough to make it unique.

My friend and I talked to the crew of this aircraft since it was also a performer in the airshow. We sent them a CD with the photos we took of them both on the ground and in the air. As a treat they sent us back signed photos and patches from their unit!

Gorgeous shots, sims! Especially, considering the lighting! You should add these to the Airshows group. I've got a bunch of mine from the 2009 Reno Air Races.

I love the b/w of the corsair. Very well composed! I also love the perspective of the C-17 and the stripe.

Well done, sir!

Very nice!! Love the low angle perspective of he C17, but I've got to say that I'm a little partial to the B&W Corsair since that is one of my favorite aircraft! That's a BEAUTIFUL shot! Well Done!!

Is this Airshows group on Flickr? I'm new to this whole group photo sharing thing...I've had a personal gallery up for friends & family for awhile.

And thank you everyone else for the kind comments. As I've mentioned it was a tough day to shoot, and the first major shoot with my Canon EOS 450D, so I'm happy that I got a couple good shots. I have a couple more that I'll post tomorrow after some minor touch-up.
