Default Nikki Sue Nikon's Word of the Day #10 - Sailors

Hi guys! Ever do something really stupid (and I know you have...)? I was out early while in the Outer Banks, taking pictures inside a lighthouse. I had my ISO set at 1600. Then, later in the day, out on a sunny beach, a once in a vacation shot comes by. Out comes the camera, held by an excited photographer, and guess what??? ISO set on 1600, happily snapping away, not checking the viewfinder...Doh! Anyway, I shot in RAW and was able to crank the exposure down a few stops and somewhat salvaged the pictures. Pardon the poor quality, but I had words that I didn't want to waste, so here goes...

Sailors
Billowed sheets scream in agony
Dancing across a mottled sky.
Rope sinews tethered against
A running windswept tide.
In the place where the ground
cedes its rights to watery infinity,
Men, unwilling to be shackled to the Earth
deign, like the birds, to fly away free.
~~Mike~

Still brilliant shots Mike, and as usual, the wee verse to follow is just the icing on the cake. Very well composed! Unfortunately, I don't get to see these guys, flying free above our shores since I moved away from the coast, "but you can't have your cake and eat it too" now can you? LOL?

No, you can't have it and eat it, too. You have such striking scenery where you are, at least you made a good trade. Thanks for the comments!

Great shots and words Mike. You are truly blessed with an ability in both areas. God bless for now. PAUL

I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife

Great shots Mike - with our wind in Wellington we get to see shots like this also. It's great to catch the movement but difficult to get all into one foto if you get close to them. Well done. Cheers, Bernz
