My husband and I went hiking today, down near Deep Creek in western North Carolina. I picked up a super cheap (and therefore affordable for us!) tripod and we set out to get photographs (well, I hoped for one - just one!) of a waterfall or two.
We started out by sitting on the rocks near the first falls on the trail, taking fifty shots to get one I didn't hate: ![]() Next we continued on, to the next set of benches (turns out we like this new "benches in National Parks thing). This bench was in front of some compelling (and heavily processed) water. ![]() Before moving on to the next waterfall, we spotted some fall color: ![]() Then finally on to my favorite picture of the day, taken at a truly beautiful waterfall: ![]() I don't ordinarily post the full four pictures in these threads, but I was truly very pleased with how my pictures came out today. I don't entirely know what I'm doing, and I was disappointed to find that I don't know how to get at my EXIF information this time (I saved everything as TIFF files and I think that may have something to do with it), so the learning isn't quite as good as I am not as easily able to refer back to my settings. Anyway, thanks for letting me share!

They are beautiful. I spent months trying to get just that effect, and when I finally did it, I couldn't understand why I hadn't been able to before...lol.

fStopMike: Numbers 2 and 4 are my favorites too.
![]() Thank you, Cathy, CYE, Paul, so much for your kind and encouraging words. I was so very pleased with how todays shots came out (I took over 200 hundred when all was said and done, and was happy with probably a dozen, and extremely pleased with two - that's a record for me!). Patrick, frames are definitely in my future. Leona, I did a lot of reading this week in preparation for my weekend photo shoot. I was glad that it wasn't in vain. I do love the rushing water, and it does seem so simple now that I've made it happen!
