Default Bouncing the flash, fun experiment w/ a CD case

My husband and I were talking about diffused and bounced flash this evening. We have a boot flash on our way to us from family in the US of A, and I'm so excited for it to get here! In the meantime, hubby experimented bouncing the flash with a white DVD case this evening as my son and I were relaxing on the couch after dinner. Poor tyke was absolutely exhausted and falling asleep in his high chair! Anyway, here are our results, and please ignore my disgusting hair.

This pic is just the camera flash...bit harsh and bright:

This time the flash is bounced off the ceiling, much warmer:

And this is the same pic, edited for Orton Effect in photoshop:

I can't wait to get the flash and play around with it!

I love how peaceful you both look in the last shot. Perfect mother/child shot.

Bouncing flash scares me. I don't know why because it's not going to bite. After seeing the results on these shots, I think you have given me the courage to just go practice with some stuff.

The big thing that I noticed is the elimination of the glare off of the sofa. The bounced flash did not illuminate the sofa and left the background mostly dark which in this shot works really well in that it isolates you and your son to be the main focus with peripheral distractions
