Default Thoroughbred Park

I saw this forum linked on another page and liked the look of the "assignment" section and thought I would join. Im pretty new to digital photography. My intrest is mainly automotive, race cars (mostly drag racing events). . It was around a year ago that my point&shoot suddenly decided to no longer work. When I looked into replacing it... I realized that it was more cost effective to buy my buddies d40 kit as he was upgrading and offered a good deal. Its now become an enjoyable hobby! Im here to expand my intrest and skills.

I took these shots earlier and liked them so thought I would start off by posting these:

Criticism is more than welcome as I'm here to learn.

Very cool shots... Love the 2nd and 3rd shot... Maybe you can try using a wider aperture and make the horses at the back blurer...

Thanks for the feedback, you're refering to the f stop number? (ie 3.5?) Forgive the ignorant Q.

Yep. The lower the number, the wider your aperture - and the more blur you get in the background.

It's really a matter of preference, though - do you want to blur the background more, or keep it as clear as it is?

I love the way you composed the photos. Very neat subject, and you showed nice angles there!

The one thing I thought was that the sky color seems a bit off - that's something you can work on fixing on the computer so it's not a biggie, but the turquoise isn't quite right...

I gotcha... the f stop was all the way down. Thats the only problem with the lense I use, its not that wide. (3.5)

I thought the sky might be a little off as well, I might make some adjustments.
