Default Diamonds...

Please feel free to share any cc. I shot this using my 60mm macro lens. Also used my speed light since it was a dark room. I find that diamonds are hard to shoot period... What are your honest thoughts on this please. Is there anything that could have or should have been done differently? Thanks.

If you have any pictures of diamonds you have taken that you would like to use for examples or just share please add to this thread. I am interested in comparing and learning. Thanks.

No pictures from me, but I really like the colors in this. It looks like photo for a jewelery store ad!

Thank you. BTW - your butterfly and waterfall pics are very pretty. Just took a peak at your Flickr. Thanks again.

Funny that you posted this, Cindy. I was thinking last night that I'd like to try and macro-photograph my wife's ring, nestled in the center of a red rose. Thanks for the shot. Well done!

I say this only because I used to be in the jewelry business for several years - it's a lovely photo, but only the center stone is in focus. If you look at jewelry advertisements, the entire piece is in perfect focus. Too shallow of a DOF in this if you're going for an "ad" look, try shooting at a smaller aperture to get the whole piece in focus.

Of course if the whole point was to get the center stone only in focus, then tell me to shut the heck up, LOL!

The colors are really, really nice.

I noticed this as well but I think it is a cool effect to blur the secondary band a bit and just highlight the main stone......really like this shot

Your comment is perfect. No worries. I did plan on the center diamond being the only focus and opened it way up just for that. I do have some images that have the entire ring in focus. I will post them a bit later for you to view. This is not a commercial use shot but for a wedding. Does it work for a wedding? Or would you just consider this art only?

In that case, I think it's lovely, especially for a wedding! It's very artistic and has great color.

But I'd LOVE to see the ones with the whole ring in focus - I don't have a dedicated macro lens and I feel the need to be jealous of someone who does, LOL!

PS: I LOVE princess cut diamonds......
