Default This will bring a smile to your face ..............

On Sunday we went to see a mate who was celebrating his 60th birthday. Of course I took my camera and took a few shots of his garden to share with you all.

Treeface

My wife and I were keen gardeners but now live in an apartment in the city. However, there was one plant that we have loaned to our friends to look after for us. It is called a trillium and took 12 years to flower for the very first time so it is precious to us but would not survive in the central city.

Trilliums are distinctive woodland plants that are eagerly awaited each spring for their showy flowers. The cultivation of these pretty plants is slow, requiring several years from seed to the flowering stage.

Trilliums are long-lived, spreading slowly and taking several years to form a significant clump. Trillium seeds require consistently moist conditions to survive but can remain viable for many years provided they are in moist soil. The genus is distinguished by its leaves and petals being clearly arranged in threes. The leaves usually have three main veins while the ovaries in which the fleshy seeds develop are three-lobed.

Trilliums are also known as “wake robins”, which refers to their early flowering habit whereby they supposedly wake the robin in spring.
Originating from the US, Japan, Korea, the Himalayas and China, trilliums produce handsome flowers in pure white, purples, reds, creams and yellows.

Yes, that gave me a laugh Bernz and your story about the Trilliums is very interesting. I like too the leaves especially as I have a similar one in my garden which is just starting to chage colour for the Autumn. Watch this space for the result. A nice one of the Camelia
to finish. Another wonderful set of pictures Bernz. Alway a pleasure to view your work.

Dave.

I like the Tree with personality, I've seen these before and think they are so fun. I'll have to find some of your Tyrillium plants and try them in the orchard in Surin Thailand, we do get quite a dry season, but I'm pretty sure we can grow them, as long as they don't need a freeze.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael.

Hey Bernz, I have suspicions of that third shot. What type of plant is that. Looks like it could be from the cannabis family. LOL. Great shots especially the first one.TFS

Thanks Patrick - A white trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario. It is an official symbol of the Government of Ontario. The large white trillium is the official wildflower of Ohio. Even I did not know that before today. Cheers, Bernz
